I have been gone on a cross country road trip so I apologize for the big gaps in my posts!  I wanted to mention Titan Pad.  This is a great free writing resource.  It is set up similar to a notebook.  As an educator you can add comments to students work.  You can watch the students writing in real time. This allows you to see how long it takes students to write and where they may have struggled.
